China urges parties involved in the Ukraine crisis to cease fire and stop the war as soon as possible.

On July 9, Xinhua News Agency reported from the United Nations that Sun Lei, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, spoke during the Security Council's discussion on the Ukraine issue, urging the parties involved to remain calm and restrained, and to make every effort to de-escalate the situation, creating conditions for an early ceasefire and end to hostilities.

Sun Lei stated that the current developments regarding the Ukraine issue are concerning. The parties involved have frequently conducted military attacks, with intensity, scale, and scope exceeding previous levels, resulting in significant civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. China condemns any attacks against innocent civilians and calls on the relevant parties to cease attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Sun Lei expressed that recently, the parties have been trapped in a vicious cycle of military confrontation and mutual retaliation, which not only causes immense suffering to civilians but also further exacerbates hatred and intensifies conflicts, making the path to peace negotiations more difficult and tortuous. The parties should remain calm and restrained, strictly adhere to international humanitarian law, and make every effort to de-escalate the situation, creating conditions for an early ceasefire and end to hostilities. Recently, the main parties have continued to express their positions on peace talks; although differences remain prominent, all support a political resolution to the crisis and hope to achieve peace soon, which is a rare consensus. All parties should remain patient, actively demonstrate political will, restore dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible, and strive to reach a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement. Regarding the Ukraine issue, each party has its own security concerns and should find the greatest common denominator that accommodates each other's security concerns, eliminate the root causes of conflict based on the principles of the UN Charter, and promote the establishment of a balanced, effective, and sustainable regional security framework to achieve long-term peace and stability in the region.

Sun Lei stated that China has always maintained an objective and fair position on the Ukraine issue. China is committed to the political resolution of the crisis, actively maintaining communication and contact with all parties, and insisting on promoting peace and negotiations in its own way.
