Fighting Continues in Multiple Areas Between Both Sides of the Sudan Conflict
In recent days, the security situation in the central Sudanese region of Kordofan has been escalating, with the two sides of the armed conflict in Sudan—the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces—engaging in ongoing battles in multiple locations.
Since mid-September, the Sudanese Armed Forces have launched large-scale military operations in the western and northern parts of North Kordofan, seizing vast areas and pushing the front lines westward to the border region between Kordofan and Darfur. Meanwhile, both sides of the conflict have increasingly utilized drones and long-range strike capabilities; the Sudanese Armed Forces recently stated that they have shot down over 110 drones belonging to the Rapid Support Forces in the first eight months of this year, while the Rapid Support Forces claimed to have downed about 80 drones from the opposing side.
On April 15, 2023, armed conflict erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital, Khartoum, and the fighting subsequently spread to other regions.
