Japan Embeds Cyber Defense Systems into Key Equipment

Reference News Network, August 14 According to the Japan Economic News on August 10, the Ministry of Defense plans to integrate software for detecting and intercepting cyber attacks into the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's radar and fighter jets as early as 2027. To address increasingly complex cyber attacks, the system will monitor for anomalies in individual equipment to prevent larger-scale losses. The system will gradually expand to other equipment in the future.

Previous cyber defense measures primarily focused on protecting the Ministry of Defense's internal systems and communication lines, while the protection of the equipment itself was relatively weak. The radar of the Air Self-Defense Force is connected to the key component of Japan's missile defense system, the Automatic Warning Control System. The Ministry of Defense is accelerating the implementation of these measures to prevent system paralysis and maintain deterrence.

The cyber defense system will continuously monitor the activities of each piece of equipment, and once suspicious access or virus intrusion is detected, it will automatically cut off communication. This will prevent damage from spreading from individual equipment to surrounding systems.
