Joint Annual First Round Border Disarmament Compliance Inspection by China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan

Jiamusi, June 5 (PLA Daily) - Reporters Du Juan and Chu Yiming report: From May 27 to June 4, a joint military inspection team composed of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan conducted a border disarmament compliance inspection in the eastern section of the China-Russia border. This is the first round of border disarmament compliance inspection activities between the two sides this year.

According to the "Agreement on Strengthening Military Trust in Border Areas" signed in 1996 and the "Agreement on Mutual Reduction of Military Forces in Border Areas" signed in 1997 (collectively referred to as the "Two Agreements") between China and the joint side (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan), the military inspection teams from both sides conduct four rounds of eight inspections each year within a 100-kilometer range of each other's border areas, focusing on military forces and technical equipment.

Accompanied by Chinese personnel, a joint military inspection team of nine entered China through the Tongjiang Port and first conducted a three-day border disarmament compliance inspection of a patrol boat brigade from a certain border defense regiment of the Northern Theater Command Army. The joint inspection team listened to the Chinese personnel's introduction regarding the troops' stationing, camp distribution, and personnel presence, and then conducted on-site inspections of the brigade's equipment storage rooms and camp areas. The inspection team fully affirmed the Chinese side's compliance work and signed the inspection report.

Qi Lin, a relevant person in charge of the patrol boat brigade from the Northern Theater Command Army, introduced that this year, we strictly followed the requirements of the "Two Agreements" and the spirit of the 50th meeting of the Joint Supervisory Group, coordinating the inspection tasks, clarifying inspection requirements, organizing personnel training, and standardizing inspection procedures, laying a solid foundation for completing the annual border disarmament compliance inspection tasks.

The head of the joint inspection team, Colonel Larikin from the Russian Ministry of Defense, pointed out that the professionalism demonstrated by the accompanying Chinese team and the inspection expert group during this inspection activity ensured that all aspects of the inspection were completed to high standards.

Subsequently, the Chinese inspection team of nine entered Russia through the Nizhnetskoye Port to inspect a certain air defense missile brigade stationed in Birobidzhan. The results showed that its weapons and equipment, personnel composition, and deployment locations all met the requirements of the agreements.

Liu Jinsong, head of the Chinese inspection team, told reporters: "This year marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the 'Agreement on Strengthening Military Trust in Border Areas' between China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. Over the years, the cooperative mechanism established by the agreement has become a successful example of enhancing political mutual trust between countries and consolidating border security, laying a solid foundation for long-term peace and common development in the region, and creating favorable conditions for the comprehensive cooperation and long-lasting friendly relations among the five countries."

It is understood that during the inspection, both sides also achieved the goals of enhancing trust and resolving doubts, deepening cooperation, strengthening relations, and promoting friendship through discussions, mutual visits to troops and border cities, and organizing cultural and sports exchanges, creating a good atmosphere for jointly maintaining peace and security in the border areas.
