Korean Media: South Korean Prosecutors Conduct Surprise Search of US Military Base Due to Local Employee's Alleged Fraud

[Global Network Report, Reporter Li Ziyu] According to Yonhap News Agency, on the 11th local time, South Korean prosecutors conducted a surprise search at a U.S. Air Force base located in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, due to allegations of fraud involving a local employee at the base.

Reports indicate that as part of the investigation into the related allegations, the Jeonju District Prosecutor's Office searched and seized items from the Gunsan Air Force Base, located about 170 kilometers south of the capital Seoul, as well as the residence of the employee.

The employee is accused of purchasing materials needed for the maintenance of the air force base from an electronic materials supplier at prices above market value between 2021 and 2023, pocketing part of the price difference. Prosecutors suspect that this individual gained approximately 240 million won (about 1.06 million yuan) in illicit profits through such transactions.

The report cites a prosecutor's official stating that they are gathering evidence related to a contract supervisor suspected of bribery, but declined to disclose further details of the investigation.
