North Carolina firm to supply parts for Marine Corps’ NMESIS launcher

Corvid Technologies LLC has been awarded a $33.86 million contract to build a weapon sled assembly for the Navy/Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System, the U.S. Marine Corps’ land-based anti-ship missile launcher.
The award is an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract combining firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee, and cost reimbursement terms. Work will be performed at Corvid’s facilities in Mooresville, North Carolina, where the company is headquartered. The contract’s ordering period runs through August 2034, giving the Department of War nearly nine years to place orders against it.
No funds were obligated at the time of award, meaning the Department of War has not yet committed any money against the $33.86 million ceiling. The Department of War will issue individual task orders and delivery orders as the work is scheduled, and money will be committed against those orders rather than the base contract.
The Portfolio Acquisition Executive Marine Corps, based at Quantico, Virginia, is the contracting activity, and the award carries the contract number M67854-26-D-1008.
The contract was not competitively bid, meaning the Department of War did not solicit offers from other companies before making the award. It was issued under Federal Acquisition Regulation 6.302-1, which allows agencies to sole-source a requirement when only one company can reasonably meet it.
NMESIS pairs the Naval Strike Missile with the ROGUE Fires carrier, an unmanned launch vehicle that Oshkosh Defense builds on the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle chassis. Raytheon, an RTX business, produces the Naval Strike Missile in partnership with Norway’s Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. The missile has a stated range of roughly 185 km (115 miles). It is designed to fly low over the sea to avoid radar detection before striking a ship near the waterline.
A weapon sled assembly is a structural component of a missile launcher. It supports and positions a missile canister on the launch platform before firing. The Department of War announcement does not specify further design details, integration requirements, or which portion of the NMESIS system the assembly will serve.
NMESIS entered low-rate initial production in 2024, after the Department of War awarded Raytheon a contract worth nearly $50 million to begin building launcher units, with deliveries due by August 2027. The U.S. Marine Corps fielded its first six NMESIS systems to the 3rd Marine Littoral Regiment at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in November 2024. Marine Corps Systems Command has said the service ultimately plans to field 48 NMESIS launchers.
Marines took NMESIS to the Philippines for Exercise Balikatan in April and May 2025, staging a launcher on Batan Island in the Luzon Strait. In June 2026, the 12th Marine Littoral Regiment on Okinawa, Japan, received its own NMESIS launchers, giving the unit land-based anti-ship missiles along the first island chain.
NMESIS is organized under Medium-Range Missile batteries within Marine Littoral Regiments, formations built for Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations. Naval News reported, citing a Marine Corps release, that each battery is structured into six sections of three launchers, for a total of 18 anti-ship missile systems per battery. A separate system, the Marine Air Defense Integrated System, provides close-in protection for NMESIS batteries against drones and aircraft.
Corvid Technologies is a small, employee-owned defense contractor founded in 2004 and based in Mooresville. The company employs more than 200 engineers and scientists. It specializes in computational physics modeling and uses an in-house supercomputer to simulate high-rate physical events such as blast and ballistic impacts. Corvid holds an 8(a) small business designation and has previously worked with the Missile Defense Agency and the U.S. Navy.
The company’s existing Navy work includes a contract for short and medium range sub-orbital target vehicles used in missile defense testing, awarded in 2025 and valued at up to $268.4 million, and a potential 10-year, $385 million contract to support Missile Defense Agency test instrumentation. Corvid has also served as a subcontractor to Kratos Defense on Department of War hypersonic flight test work.
