Sweden Launches "Aurora" Military Exercise

According to a report by Reference News Network on April 29, the Russian news agency Sputnik reported on April 27 that the Swedish Armed Forces announced that it would conduct exercises starting April 27, with a total of 18,000 soldiers participating, including troops from NATO countries.

The Swedish Armed Forces website stated: “Sweden's largest nationwide military exercise ‘Aurora 26’ has officially begun.”

The Swedish Armed Forces indicated that the Swedish military will conduct joint exercises with 11 NATO countries and the Ukrainian military to enhance defensive capabilities, with the aim of “responding to the growing threats.” The exercises will mainly take place in southern and central Sweden, on Gotland Island, and in the Baltic Sea region.

The “Aurora 26” exercise will be held from April 27 to May 13. In recent years, Russia has repeatedly pointed out that NATO is conducting “unprecedented” activities along its western border. Moscow has expressed concerns about NATO's military buildup in Europe.
