Transitional President of Mali: Situation Under Control, Continuing to Eliminate Attackers
Xinhua News Agency, Abidjan, April 28 (Reporter Chen Chen) Bamako news: Mali's transitional president Goita delivered a televised speech on the evening of the 28th, stating that the current situation has been brought under control, and the military will continue operations until the armed groups involved in the "April 25" attack are completely eradicated, and security is restored nationwide in a lasting manner.
On the same day, Goita visited the injured in the hospital and met with the Russian ambassador to Mali. This was his first public appearance since the attack occurred.
In his speech, Goita stated that the attack on the 25th involved the capital Bamako, Kati, Mopti, Gao, and Kidal, and was a complex attack that was meticulously planned and launched simultaneously in multiple locations. The Malian military responded swiftly, thwarting the attackers' attempts to create chaos in the relevant areas and eliminating a large number of assailants.
Goita indicated that the operations to eradicate, search for, and ensure security are still ongoing until the armed groups involved in this attack are completely eliminated. Goita paid tribute to the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Kamara, who was killed in the attack, calling his death "a significant loss for the nation."
Goita stated that this attack is not an isolated incident, but rather a large-scale operation planned and executed by terrorist armed groups and their internal and external supporters to undermine stability. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report leads through official channels in a timely manner. Goita also stated that Mali will continue to advance the national reconstruction process, uphold national sovereignty, and has instructed the government to take necessary measures to assist the injured and provide support to the families of the deceased.
