Ukraine holds world’s first all-drone military parade

Ukraine held what organizers described as the world’s first military parade composed entirely of unmanned systems on August 24, 2026, marking the country’s Independence Day with a display of ground, naval, and aerial drones instead of traditional manned formations.
Dozens of ground robotic systems moved down Kyiv’s main street, built for logistics, reconnaissance, and combat missions. Overhead, interceptor drones designed to shoot down incoming aerial attacks flew above the capital alongside reconnaissance drones used to monitor the battlefield and strike drones. On the Dnipro River, Ukraine’s naval kamikaze drones, already known internationally from their use against Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, took part alongside reconnaissance versions and naval drones equipped with anti-aircraft missiles.
The event follows Ukraine’s move to formalize its Unmanned Systems Forces as a dedicated branch of the military. President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree in June 2024 establishing the branch, and later designated June 11 as an annual Day of Unmanned Systems Forces. Ukrainian officials have said the country was the first in the world to stand up a dedicated military branch built specifically around drone warfare.
Independence Day fell on Ukraine’s 35th anniversary of statehood this year, the fifth marked since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.
Kyiv had not held a conventional military parade since 2022, instead using Khreshchatyk Street in recent years to display destroyed Russian military equipment as a symbol of resistance.
