U.S. Media: The U.S. is Formulating a Military Plan for a "Fatal Blow" Against Iran
On March 26, Xinhua News Agency reported from Washington that the U.S. Axios news website cited U.S. officials and sources saying that the U.S. Department of Defense is formulating a "decisive strike" military plan against Iran, which may include the use of ground forces and large-scale bombing.
According to reports, some U.S. officials believe that demonstrating strong military power to end the conflict could create more leverage for peace negotiations, or at least give President Trump the opportunity to declare victory.
Sources told the media that the proposed "decisive strike" plan includes invading or blockading Iran's main oil export hub, Khark Island, attacking the strategic location of Larak Island used by Iran to control the Strait of Hormuz, seizing Abu Musa Island and two other small islands located at the western entrance of the strait, as well as blocking or seizing vessels transporting Iranian oil on the eastern side of the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition, the U.S. military has also developed a ground operation plan to penetrate deep into Iran to obtain high-enriched uranium buried within nuclear facilities. Another option is to carry out large-scale airstrikes to prevent Iran from acquiring these nuclear materials in the future.
Reports indicate that although Trump has not made a final decision on the above plan, and the White House has stated that ground operations are still in "hypothetical" discussions, sources indicate that if negotiations with Iran do not yield substantial results in the short term, Trump is prepared to escalate the conflict.
White House Press Secretary Levitt warned Iran on the 25th that if an agreement cannot be reached, Trump is ready to launch strikes "more severe than ever before." (End)
