Xinhua News Agency, Kyiv/Moscow, October 4 (Reporters Li Dongxu and Liu Kai) - Ukrainian President Zelensky stated on social media on the 4th that multiple locations within Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, were attacked by Russian drones from the night of the 3rd to the 4th, resulting in 1 death and 6 injuries.

Zelensky mentioned that on the morning of the 4th, the North Bridge in Kyiv was attacked by a drone. Additionally, a medical supplies warehouse in Sumy was hit, resulting in 1 death. A telecommunications company in Dnipro was also attacked, leading to 6 injuries.

Zelensky reported that from the night of the 3rd to the early morning of the 4th, the Russian military launched a total of 135 attack drones into Ukrainian territory, damaging infrastructure in Kyiv Oblast, Kharkiv Oblast, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Sumy Oblast, and other areas, with some regions experiencing power outages. He stated that over the past week, the Russian military has launched more than 1,900 attack drones, nearly 1,700 aerial bombs, and 25 missiles into Ukraine.

On October 4, at around 10:19 to 10:30 local time in Ukraine, Xinhua reporters in Kyiv heard the Ukrainian military's air defense forces conducting intensive operations and strong explosions. At 10:20, reporters saw thick smoke rising near the North Bridge spanning the Dnieper River, suspected to be from a drone explosion.

The Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement on social media on the 4th, stating that the recent large-scale strikes on Kyiv and other regions by Russia are a direct response to a series of actions by Ukraine, including Ukraine's attacks on civilian facilities within Russia to disrupt the elections for the State Duma (the lower house of parliament), Ukraine's use of attack drones to strike St. Petersburg to disrupt the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June, and recent attacks by Ukraine on residential areas in Belgorod resulting in civilian casualties.

On the same day, the Russian Ministry of Defense also reported that from the night of the 3rd to the early morning of the 4th, the Russian military continued to strike Ukrainian port infrastructure and vessels serving the Ukrainian military. A cargo ship transporting military supplies for the Ukrainian military was struck by a Russian drone in the waters east of Odessa. (End)
