Zelensky Says Ukraine Will Respond "Equally" to Russian Attacks
Xinhua News Agency, Kyiv, May 6 (Reporter Li Dongxu) - Ukrainian President Zelensky stated on social media on the evening of the 6th that since the early hours of the 6th, the Russian side has responded to Ukraine's ceasefire proposal with attacks and has not ceased any military operations. Therefore, Ukraine will respond "in kind."
Zelensky noted that since the early hours of the 6th, regions including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Zaporizhzhia have reported attacks by Russian forces. Ukraine will make a "fully fair response" based on the situation on the evening of the 6th and the 7th.
Zelensky emphasized that the Russian side received Ukraine's clear proposal for a ceasefire and a shift to diplomatic means, and is aware of how to contact Ukraine or relevant partners to reach specific details.
On the 4th, Russia announced a ceasefire from May 8 to 9 to commemorate the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, hoping that Ukraine would follow suit. Zelensky then announced that Ukraine decided to unilaterally implement a ceasefire starting from midnight on the 6th and called on the Russian side to take genuine measures to end the war.
Some local Russian officials on the 6th accused Ukraine of attacking multiple locations over the past 24 hours, resulting in casualties. On the same day, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba stated that after Ukraine unilaterally implemented a ceasefire at midnight, the Russian side continued to launch airstrikes within Ukraine.
